Jane Garrison
has been a leader in the animal protection movement for more than a
decade. For 6 years she ran an international program to protect
elephants. In fact, she spent 3 months in South Africa working to free
30 baby elephants who were cruelly torn from their mothers and were
being tortured in a warehouse. Jane is certified in disaster rescue and
has rescued animals from floods, tornadoes and hurricanes. She spent 7
weeks personally rescuing over 1300 animals in New Orleans in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Through her work for animals, Jane has
appeared on countless TV programs such as The Today Show, CBS Evening
News, Inside Edition, CNN, Animal Planet, PBS Nature and others. She
has been a guest speaker at international conferences around the world.
She sat on the prestigious Genesis Awards committee for 9 years. Jane
is a contributing author to "Elephants and Ethics" a widely anticipated
book being published by Johns Hopkins press summer 2008. Jane lives in
Southern California with her husband and their adorable rescued cats!
A notable television news journalist, Jane Velez-Mitchell
reported for the nationally syndicated Warner Brothers/Telepictures
show "Celebrity Justice." She is now seen commenting on high-profile
cases for CNN, MSNBC, Court TV, Fox News and other national cable TV
shows. She has also frequently guest hosted for Nancy Grace on her
widely watched CNN Headline News show. Velez-Mitchell authored a
non-fiction book, released last year, entitled “Secrets Can Be Murder:
What America’s Most Sensational Crimes Tell Us About Ourselves.”
Velez-Mitchell previously spent more than a decade anchoring and
reporting for KCAL- TV in Los Angeles. She also served as a
reporter/anchor for eight years at WCBS-TV in New York City.
Velez-Mitchell is the recipient of a Los Angeles Emmy Award and a New
York Emmy Award. She also wrote, directed and produced “Dancing Through
Life,” an award-winning documentary. While working at “Celebrity
Justice,” Velez-Mitchell’s reporting earned the show two Genesis Awards
from the Humane Society of the United States.
